What You’ll Learn

  • What does it look like to live in Holy Envy? How do I engage with and understand different faith traditions in a way that both strengthens my own and increases my appreciation of others.

  • Here we will take a trip to India to study the world’s third largest religion. Hinduism is rich in ideas, traditions, and full sensory forms of worship. Discover how different forms of worship help different personalities connect with the divine.

  • Buddhists are known for their gentle way of living and mastery of mindfulness. Come learn about the four noble truths and the eight fold path–a pattern of living that brings an inner sense of peace.

  • Jainism is a relatively smaller religion found mostly India. Although they are small in number, their influence is felt worldwide–particularly their practice of Ahimsa–a wildly compassionate form of non violence.

  • Today there are fewer than 200,000 Zoroastrians, but at one time it was the dominant religion of the world. They are known traditionally as the good religion because of their emphasis on good thoughts, good words, and good deeds. Latter-day Saints will find some of their beliefs and practices particularly intriguing!

  • Confucius died thinking he lived his life as a failure, but he single handedly influenced the continent of Asia perhaps more than any other. Confucianism and its principles of living as “the superior person of character” answer boldly the question: Can one person really change the world?

  • Come learn to live in the mystery and the wonder of “The Way”. Those who have turned from worldly exploits as shallow and unrewarding and who have tired of the daily struggles over rank and position—have turned to Taoist teachings. Perhaps we don’t have to fight so much against life, but rather let life teach us and form us the way it can best.

  • The dominant religion of Japan will teach you how to find the sacred in the most ordinary places. Come learn of the kami and the ways to live in honor and respect for them. Shinto means “the way of the Gods”--a fitting title for this way of life.

  • Come learn the history, traditions, beliefs and holy days of a covenant people. The way Jewish people remember and practice their beliefs through their study and living out of Torah in every single day is remarkable and inspiring.

  • The study of Islam and Muslims will surprise you. Unfortunately, they are often misunderstood and misrepresented, but their life of submission and consecration through the Muslim five pillars will move you to great holy envy for the way they worship and believe.

  • Guru Nanak spent his life teaching people that God can be found everywhere, and when we find Him, we will find ample reasons to rejoice! Come learn about their adoration of scripture and the vows of the Kalsa as you study Sikhism.

  • Christianity is the world’s largest religion. Although the central truths are the same, come learn how the different branches of Christianity practice their faith and what they believe about the Godhead, salvation, sacraments, scripture, and more.

  • As we understand and appreciate the faith of others, we begin to think more deeply and with more conviction about our own. We find the beautiful balance between appreciating what God is doing through the world, and the unique role we have in helping to bring about His purposes.

What Students Are Saying

  • "This course didn't just teach me facts & history, but it taught me how to love better. My love for the world has grown. My love for God has grown. But I think my search for truth, although it's been happening my entire life, has just begun. How exciting."

    Lexi M.

  • "I have a much deeper love for my own FAITH. But more than that, my eyes are open to those around me that may not believe in my same God. 'Every religion is an expression of God's white light' I love this!... it was definitely worth every minute."

    Nicole S.

  • "I absolutely loved this course. I learned and was enlightened. I loved learning how [others] worship and learning the beautiful connections with how I worship. I left having my judgements sorted out that I previously had because of ignorance."

    Deirdre D.
